The Children's Services Round Table of the Missouri Library Association is pleased to announce the Missouri Building Block Picture Book Award. This award is designed to encourage reading aloud to children from birth through kindergarten age. Parents and other caregivers are encouraged to read to children from the following list of ten titles selected by a group of Missouri librarians. http://molib.org/awards/building-block-award/current-nominees/

We will be reading these titles during Kindergarten library lessons.

Purpose of the GKC Read Program

The GKC Read Program promotes reading by providing an annual Nominee List of quality books for students within the 2.8 - 4.8 reading range. Books on the GKC Read Nominee list are intended to introduce quality contemporary literature to students.

Process:  Students who read or have had read to them, at least four (4) titles from the master list will vote for his/her favorite.  Ballots  will be prepared for school librarians to distribute and collect from participating classrooms in March.  The author of the winning title will receive special recognition.

American Library Association Book Awards

The Association for Library Service to Children is a division of the American Library Association.  This organization provides resources for children's librarians including awarding medals to outstanding books.

Show Me Books

The purpose of the Show Me Readers Award is to promote literature, literacy, and reading in Missouri elementary schools for grades one through three and to promote recognition of authors and illustrators of books that are favorites of Missouri children in these grades.  For more information on this award go to this web page:

The Mark Twain Book Award is sponsored by the Missouri Association of School Librarians. This is a student choice award given by students in the state of Missouri in grades four through eight.
