We are pleased to announce Manor Hill’s third year of participation in the Kansas City Kids’ Marathon.  Throughout this 8-week program, students will record miles walked and/or ran during physical education classes, recess, voluntary participation in a Friday morning running club and special events within the community. Our goal is for each Manor Hill Patriot to run or walk 25 miles leading up to the final 1.2-mile KC Kids' Marathon.  Upon completion of the program, student mileage will total a full marathon! By reaching this goal, our students will complete over 11,000 miles this fall in support of Children’s Mercy Hospital’s efforts in fighting childhood obesity! 

The culminating event in the program is for our students to participate in the 2011 Kansas City Kids’ Marathon held on Saturday, October 15th near Crown Center.  Through their participation, students will receive a t-shirt and medal from the Kansas City Marathon for their hard work and effort.  We are very excited for our students to have this opportunity to participate in this free-of-charge program to help support an active and healthy life-style.  Students will learn more about this program in their physical education class and information will also be distributed in Friday Folders. 

In conjunction with the Kansas City Kids’ Marathon training program, we would like to offer students the opportunity to participate in a before-school Friday morning running club.  You and your student are invited to join staff and friends each Friday morning leading up to the KC Kids’ Marathon.  Your student may walk or can be dropped off at the Manor Hill walking trail beginning at 7:30 a.m. to complete miles towards reaching his/her goal of 25 miles prior to the Oct. 15th event.  Students will be supervised by staff from 7:30-8:00 a.m. at which time they will be dismissed from the trail to enter into the building for the school day.  The first running club will be held on Friday, September ! 

Congratulations to the Manor Hill community.  Manor Hill was the top participating school at last year's Liberty School Foundation's Run. For the Kids' event held on Saturday, September 25th.  Manor Hill's great showing earned our school one of the $500 prizes provided by the Foundation.  This money was used to provide transportation to last year's Kansas City Kids' Marathon.  Great work Patriots!

Liberty School District Foundation is happy to announce it's 4th annual Race. For the Kids event on Saturday, September 24th.  The races include both 5K and 10K events.  The top 3 participating LPS schools will receive a check for $500!  Manor Hill was the winning school, in participation, the last two years and we were able to use the money we received to provide each of our families transportation to the KC Kids' Marathon event.  This is once again our goal and we encourage our Manor Hill community to support the LSDF during this great event!

Does Participating in the Kids' Marathon Cost Money?

Due to the Children's Mercy Hospital's sponsorship, the KC Kids' Marathon does not cost Manor Hill students anything to participate.

Is Manor Hill Providing Transportation to the Marathon This Year?

Yes. We will have LPS buses transport students, families and staff to this year's event located near Crown Center.  Due to district policy, we unfortunately will not be able to transport non-school aged children though.  The families of all registered students will receive an email asking if your family plans to take advantage of this opportunity in early October so that we can plan accordingly.  All families not arriving to the event by bus will be provided with information for how to meet the our group at the event. 

Does My Child Have To Participate in the Friday Morning Clubs to Participate in the KC Kids' Marathon?

No. The Friday Morning Running Club is a way to bring students, staff and families together to lead an active life-style in a fun way.  There is absolutely no requirement for students needing to participate in the club to participate in the kids' marathon.
